Profile summary

I first joined Hilti as an intern in fire protection. I was so impressed by their teamwork, how they build on each other’s strengths, that I knew I wanted to stay much longer than a year.
 
The next step was Hilti’s Outperformer program, where I got the opportunity to develop local suppliers in Brazil and manage the global sourcing of our business unit installation. As part of the program, I also took a leadership course at IMD Business School in Switzerland and worked on a social project building houses in Bosnia. What’s more, I’m part of this strong network of trainees that we’ve created, which translates into friends and business buddies around the world, people who are always ready to help and give advice.
 
On graduating from Outperformer, I moved to Dallas, Texas, to take on the role of global product manager for business unit installation. It’s been one of the most exciting experiences of my career. During the first few months, we built a brand new team and created a roadmap of activities, including strategic and product development projects. Now we’re full speed ahead in driving our vision.
 
Hilti has given me the chance to live in different continents, explore and learn new roles and show what I’m capable of. If I had to summarize my experience in a few words, I’d say there are no limits to your career or personal development at Hilti. It just depends on how much you’re willing to put in.

Profile summary

I first discovered Hilti while doing my master’s degree in Spain. I was looking for an internship relating to my studies and joined their Unitech International program in the hope of developing a global career.
 
That quickly happened when I was moved from Hilti’s regional office in Spain to corporate head office in Liechtenstein. It was a swift and sharp move from a local technical role to a global role in marketing and technology. I loved both aspects of the job, which taught me crucial elements of a multinational business: operations and strategy.
 
I now travel around the world to implement and launch projects as part of our global vision. To do this, I need to understand each of the markets, their customers, teams and processes - all to drive the business in different ways. From one day to the next, you might find me visiting customers in the field, presenting at a conference or running a training event for the local market’s technical and sales teams.
 
In just three years at Hilti, I’ve worked in ten countries and learned so much. I’ve worked with colleagues from all different departments, talked to a lot of customers and led projects on a diverse range of topics. Throughout the journey, I’ve always had someone to help me and get the best out of me.
 
I look around the business and am happy to see that the people who joined Hilti with me in 2013 are now spread around the world: the US, Hong Kong, France, Italy, the UK…and that’s just at a glance. It’s testament to Hilti’s commitment to the development of its people, and the opportunities out there if you’re ambitious enough to go for them.

I joined Hilti in 2015 and started in the position of Key Project Engineer. Spending 80% of my time on the field with customers gave me some great insights into our customers’ business. It also enabled me to understand the Hilti business and operating model. This knowledge empowered me to provide unique and value-added Hilti solutions. Being in this customer-facing role opened more doors and opportunities too. I was then tasked to work on a Trade Strategy project for Hilti Marketing Organisation in Southeast Asia. I’m now an Account Manager, and this structured move and development further built my skillsets.
 
Regularly, I discuss my challenges and career aspirations with my mentor, the general manager, who encourages me to think outside the box and leads me in the right direction. The best part about Hilti are the people – the Hilti culture is spread across countries and continents. Change is a constant, however with our innovative thinking, learning agility and adaptability, no challenges are too difficult to be overcome. Expectations to excel and outperform are high too, but so are the rewards.

Profile summary

I joined the Outperformer program just over two years ago, having been attracted to Hilti’s international profile and opportunities. I started as an account manager in the busy city of Manchester, selling our premium power tools, helping to solve engineering enquiries and visiting interesting city centre construction sites - everything from residential homes through to modern offices and exclusive hotels with unusual architectural designs and solutions. It was a challenging year, but I had great support from my more experienced colleagues and engineers, who were always happy to help and share their expertise.

I then spent some months with the finance team in Manchester head office before joining the marketing team in Dublin, Ireland. Aside from mastering an Irish accent, I had the exciting opportunity to do market research and competitive analysis for our key anchor systems. 

My next project was a global one, which meant fulfiling my life-long dream to move to Central America. There I joined our newly created regional head quarters for Latin America in Panama City, working on diversity and inclusion with regional HR. The project not only gave me the chance to immerse myself in the fascinating mix of all Latin American countries (in the region, we have almost 80 people of 19 nationalities), but also to see that there’s something special about the Hilti culture and people. No matter which country you work in at Hilti, you can be sure to find like-minded people who’ll make you feel instantly welcome.

Having completed my project in Panama (and graduated from Outperfomer), I’ve been offered a full-time position as communications manager for Latin America. I couldn´t be happier. I’ll be getting lots of high-level exposure, while constantly learning and trying new things. Best of all, I’ll get to travel the continent that I’ve wanted to be part of for such a long time.

Profile summary

My first role on the Outperformer program was in sales, which I was quite nervous about. I soon learned that it’s basically a case of relationship management. You’re going out and meeting people, selling and advising on our products. You also get lots of support from your team, be it other sales people on the road or the customer service guys in head office. So, far from being scary, it’s really quite fun. Especially when you make your first sale. What a buzz!

What I’m most excited about is the opportunity to work abroad. While other companies don’t let you do this, or they make it very difficult, Hilti genuinely want you to experience working and living in different countries.

A university event in Hong Kong led me to fall in love with the leaders at Hilti before I even knew about the firm. The unique culture of Hilti, with its almost flat organizational structure and the emphasis placed on employee development were the reasons behind me joining Hilti almost 2 years ago, and I have not looked back since!
 
In a short span of time, I have done B2B Sales, Product Marketing and Finance. In addition to the functional knowledge that these experiences have given me, they have strengthened me as a person and I’ve grown by leaps and bounds. Doing sales in an industry I’ve never had exposure to before, in addition to the language barrier, was a challenge at first. But it turned out to be enjoyable as well as great experience and is valuable in every project I take up.
 
Being in the Outperformer program truly was a privilege and an excellent opportunity to give your career at Hilti a head start. The exceptional amount of coaching and mentoring from senior management makes me see clearly where I want to be in 10 years and how to get there. And now I enjoy a leadership position as Area Sales Manager!
