Profile summary

Before joining Hilti, I already lived and worked in the Rhine Valley, where Hilti have a huge production plant and training facility. One day I asked myself, “Why am I not working for the best company in the region?” And, with this thought, I applied for a job at Hilti and haven’t regretted it since.

It’s a really dynamic environment, where no day is just another day and no project is just another project. It’s a continuous challenge to be successful in a global competitive market, so we’re expected to push barriers, be they technological, behavioral or cultural.

What’s special about Hilti is they give you the chance to act like an entrepreneur. If something falls within your area of responsibility, you have the freedom to make decisions and do what you need to do.

For me, ‘making a career for yourself’ is not about climbing a ladder. It’s about growing as a person and adding value to something meaningful. Hilti have really given me this; it’s a motivating place to be.

Profile summary

I was working at Mercedes, and studying for an MBA, when a head hunter approached me about an opportunity at Hilti. He tried to persuade me with Hilti’s core values, but I was sceptical that these values were just words on a website, like they are in any company. I eventually went for an interview and quickly got the sense that, with Hilti, their values are more than just words. They’re part of the culture and company DNA.

My early experience at Hilti was impressive for many reasons. I remember thinking, just a year or so into my first role, that I’d represented our global logistics team in an Asian summit with logistics heads of 14 different countries. I also loved being able to work on projects right across the supply chain, to own the whole chain.

After five years in head office, I felt it was time to join a region, where I’d be closer to the customer and have more direct contact and impact every day. We achieved things like regionalize materials management across markets in central Europe, which led to 40% reduction in ‘stock out’ situations. We also built an excellent team, who enjoyed socializing together, be it an official team event or a casual get together.

Having had three jobs in my first five years at Hilti, I’ve spent the past six years in the same one role. It still feels like different jobs though, as we drive so many improvements, from people development to process change. It’s certainly never boring.

What strikes me about Hilti is our long-term approach. So if we have a bad financial year, we don’t cut down on people but use it to strengthen our position and grow in better times.

Profile summary

I joined Hilti a year and a half ago, as Head of Lean for the production plant in Thüringen. My task is to support the plant on its lean journey to operational excellence.

It’s a really varied role, which looks at reducing lead time, fostering the continuous improvement process and culture, and encouraging lean behaviour throughout the plant.

Just recently, I was also given the opportunity to support a strategy project in Hilti’s Global Tool Service – a completely different area for me. Even here as a newcomer, my input is welcomed and I feel as if I’m really contributing to the outcome of the project.

I love getting to know different areas and processes of the business and, above all, working with so many different people.

It never gets boring and I’m learning a lot – about the business, about Lean and also about myself. My job involves a fair bit of change management, which is definitely a challenge!

While Hilti expects dedication and results from its people, it also takes care of us and supports us in developing ourselves.
